At the start of 2011, Max More became president and CEO of the Alcor Life Extension Foundation, an organization he joined in 1986.
In a 1990 essay “Transhumanism: Toward a Futurist Philosophy”, he introduced the term “transhumanism” in its modern sense.
Founder of the Extropy Institute, Max More has written many articles espousing the philosophy of transhumanism and the transhumanist philosophy of extropianism, most importantly his Principles of Extropy, introduced in 1998:
- Endless eXtension
Aim to use technology to continually transform and augment the human body until we attain radically expanded lifespans, super-human wisdom & physical/neurological powers beyond anything we can imagine today.
- Transcending Restriction
Extropists reject all restrictions imposed by religion, protectionism, segregation, racism, bigotry, sexism, ageism, and any of the other archaic fears and hatreds that continue to limit us today.
- Overcoming Property
Rejection of property & copyrights as human progress will advance far faster if knowledge, culture and resources are shared by everyone for the general welfare of all Earth’s inhabitants.
Extropists believe the most valuable material in the universe is information and the imagination to do something with it.
- Smart Machines
A primary goal of Extropism is the attainment of Friendly Artificial Intelligence.
